Our team has been evolving from the beginning of this journey to develop operations in Ghana and Uganda. What continues to help us find valuable people to work alongside is the desire to serve and empower others. Also, creating a profitable model that incentivizes locals to participate will help us gain valuable partners on the ground from day one of operation.
Michael H. Wood, DVM
Mike grew up in North Central Nebraska on a family ranching operation. Upon graduation, he attended Nebraska Wesleyan University receiving a bachelors in Biology. He then attended Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Mike has practiced for 27 years, specializing in beef cattle medicine and production. He moved back to his families Sandhill's ranch in 2003 but still continues to practice medicine and raise cattle. Most of his time is now spent working on the details of all aspects of cattle production in foreign countries.
Richard S. Burtwistle
Rich has been involved in ranching his entire life. He incorporates many innovative practices on his Sandhill's Nebraska ranch including artificial insemination, high tensile electric fencing, medium density rotational grazing, and cow leasing. Rich also does custom AI work, is a representitive for ABS Global, and does land management and sales for Gumb Realty. He brings a unique, grass-roots yet technologically advanced approach to ranching.
William J. Bianco, JD
Bill is the originator of our agriculture project, stemming from his experience in Africa. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan University where he recieved his bachelors degree in economics and then went on to the University of San Diego School of Law. He has been an attorney for 27 years, involved in all aspects of law but has extensive experience in the international arena. Bill also teaches an international business class at Creighton University in Omaha, where he resides.
Consultants and Employees
Merlin Schlote, consultant
Merlin has worked in the animal feed industry since 1989. His experience has taken him throughout the midwest. He currently works for CHS, a Fortune 100 global cooperative involved in energy, grains, and the food industry, as manager of their Norfolk, Nebraska operations. He has extensive experience in cattle feeding and the use of by-products and commodities as feed sources. Merlin and his wife, Pam, also have a herd of registered Black Angus cattle which they market bulls out of every year.
Dave Jakubowski, consultant
Dave's career in the crop production services industry began by working part time at National Farm Products in O’Neill, NE while in high school. After graduation in 1973 Dave and his wife, Pam, moved to Atkinson, NE where he was an assistant manager for the company’s fertilizer supply division, moving on to manage the operation in 1975. In 1978, he left the fertilizer business to take over his retiring father's hog farrowing operations at O’Neill but returned to the farm supply business in 1980, working in sales and agronomy for Emmet Fertilizer and Grain Co. In 1987 the company was acquired by Agricultural Services, Inc. where he remained as Manager until his retirement in 2017.
Dave's area of expertise is in basic agronomy, acquired as a result of the privilege he had observing customer's fields and helping them solve issues related to crop production.
Brad Rowan, consultant
Brad brings his financial expertise to our group based on 43 years of experience in the banking industry. He retired from his formal job in 2017 to spend more time with family but still wants to expand his career through now opportunities and has followed our work in Africa from it's beginnings. Brad grew up on his family's ranch, graduated from college with a bachelors Agriculture Economics from the University of Nebraska, and spent his early years with Farm Credit/Production Credit Association in O'Neill, Nebraska. From 1984 to 2017, Brad was a Vice President of several banks, handling agriculture operating and real estate loans. In his last 12 years, he managed a portfolio of $30,000,000, 133 clients, with credits ranging from $10,000 to $3,000,000. Other responsibilities included payroll and accounts payable. As with all of our consultants, he brings a wealth of knowledge and unmatched experience to our team.
Richard Berkland, consultant
Rich has unmatched experience all over the world with irrigated agriculture while being employed at Valmont Indutries as their International Sales vice-president. Because of his experience and contacts, he is instrumental in helping us form freindships and partnerships. Rich is a constant source of information and, above all, a very good friend.
